Maryam Yahaya Shantali held several key leadership positions at the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB). Notably, she served as the secretary to the board at the Zamfara State Universal Basic Education Board (ZSUBEB). She played a pivotal role in administrative oversight, strategic planning, and contributing to organizational efficiency. She also served as the Director of Quality Assurance and Director of Planning, Research, and Statistics, where she implemented transformative initiatives to enhance educational standards, data-driven decision-making, and strategic planning. Her tenure as the Focal Person for the World Bank’s Better Education Service Delivery for All (BESDA) program resulted in significant achievements, including a substantial reduction in out-of-school children, increment in Literacy rate, development of Basic Education Strategic Plans and promotion of digital classrooms attendance, earning the state substantial rewards. Her expertise extends beyond government roles, encompassing significant contributions as a consultant for UNICEF’s ‘Girl’s Education Project’ and as a Programme Specialist under the CBN/EDC Programme, where she focused on empowering women and youth through entrepreneurship and small-scale businesses.
Her dedication to social mobilization and community engagement is further evidenced by her roles as PIU Coordinator for UNICEF/ EAC cash transfer programme in rural communities of Maradun, Bukkuyum and Zurmi Local Governments of Zamfara State.Maryam’s commitment to professional development is evident through her participation in numerous international education study tours and short-term training programs, including those in Rwanda, the United Kingdom, Finland, and Ghana. Her accolades include the Leadership and Excellent Award for Most Transparent and Accountable Public Servant in Nigeria, as well as numerous certificates of merit and honour for her contributions to basic education.She is a member of Eramus European voluntary service, London, Annur women associations, Save the Children, National Teachers registration council, Gwandu Emirate Academy.

Though an administrator, Maryam also has a passion for educational research, some of the laudable researches includes Zamfara State Teacher Demand and Supply analysis, Analysis of School Priority needs in Zamfara State. One of her major Publication is a paper presentation on ‘A practice that promote entrepreneurship opportunity in the delivery of Early Childhood Care Education in Nigeria’ at the African Forum on Education.
